Sonmarg meaning “Golden Meadow” is situated at a distance of 87 Kms in the north east of Srinagar city at an altitude of 2749 metres from mean sea level . It is surrounded by mighty mountains and bestowed with sparkling glaciers and a fascinating landscape.
Nallah(Stream) Sindh meanders through the entire Sonmarg and has turned it into a “Natural Master Piece” over a period of time. Besides being one of the major Tourist destination, it serves as a resting place for Amarnath-Ji Holy Cave bound pilgrims and is also an important halting/transit station for tourists and Army destined to travel to Leh and Kargil. Sonmarg also serves as a base camp for trekkers to high altitude Lakes of Vishensar(4084 mtrs), Kishansar(3810 mtrs),Gadasar and Gangabal(3658 mtrs).
